Anyone else here practice intentional sleep deprivation as a prep?

2021.04.19 07:15 pezzeroni Anyone else here practice intentional sleep deprivation as a prep?

I'm a night owl to begin with, but I also used to party quite a bit and would regularly just not sleep for over 24hrs. I don't party as much anymore, and it's not insomnia, (I sleep like a baby) but I find myself still in the practice of not sleeping for entire random nights without much effect on my energy levels. In the recent past I've started doing this more intentionally, and about once a month to keep the ability to be able to function at almost full capacity, and into the next day without sleeping the night before. I know I've heard and can imagine this would be common practice in certain armed forces training, and probably to more extreme levels than I have messed with. Also, I've known people that can't handle missing a night's sleep without being almost completely useless and/or insane the next day and I can't imagine that being effective in many emergency situations. It's been a while. I think tonight's gonna be one of those nights.

I've been searching for a front door latch that is child proof and that protects against intrusion (like the linked one below). Only problem is I have casing that isn't flush with the inside of my door. Any suggestions of options that have worked?

2021.04.19 07:15 PolymerLilac I’m an atheist/agnostic, but I still fear Catholicism from my upbringing.

I’m 17, and for most of my life I have evaded even deciding my own religion or spirituality to myself. However, at some point last year, I made it known to myself that I no longer believe in Catholicism (although I probably started doubting from the age of 10 or 11).
Despite this, I still doubt my own confidence in atheism, and occasionally I will fear the concept of ‘eternal damnation’. I just want to live my life, free from religion and corruption. I was brought up in a Catholic home, and I went to Catholic school right up until age 16, so I’ve always had its religion almost forced into me from an early age.
My question is: Is there any way to overcome this doubt and anxiety? Or is it almost embedded in my nature due to my Catholic upbringing and well... brainwash. Thanks.

2021.04.19 07:15 Clutch41007 I need a modern-day FPS or third-person shooter that is devoid of CoD/MLG/FAZE nonsense. Difficulty: don't mention Rainbow Six: Siege. It's just as bad there.

Well, I feel it coming on. After leaving Battlefield because it had turned into a hellscape of YouTuber-influenced stupidity, I returned to the Call of Duty series to find Modern Warfare 2019 a refreshing and different Call of Duty than the other games whose multiplayer I abandoned long, long ago.
So, of course, after a year and change of enjoying that, it's turned back into the insulting nightmare I ran from ten years prior. I can't deal with the dropshotting, bunny-hopping, jerky-movement, broken-gun-abusing tripe. I just can't anymore. I shouldn't have to max out my sensitivity, down three pots of coffee, and then bathe in Red Bull and pure meth just to have a chance of winning a gunfight.
So, I need another game. One that doesn't insult my intelligence, and tell me that a .50 BMG at point blank range is capable of hitmarkers only because it hit the guy's leg. Something in which rounds are won not by being the most coked-to-the-gills human being since Tony Montana, but because I shot straight and knew how to read a room properly.
I know what some of you are coming to say, despite my noting so in the title: "Rainbow Six: Siege." I appreciate it, but no. One, it's just as bad there. And two, it's Ubisoft, and I'm quite unamused with their recent shenanigans.
So, with that in mind...any suggestions, and why?

2021.04.19 07:15 SarcasticCommunist A New Star Wars Game Concept

Ok hear me out, I don't know if anyone has had this idea (I'm sure someone has but I haven't seen it). A Red Dead Redemption style Bounty Hunter game.
Disney has talked about letting other companies work on Star Wars projects, and while Rockstar would do an amazing job, it doesn't have to be them.
-My idea for the basic game structure-
You start on an Republic, Imperial, or New Republic prison world (maybe you can choose the era and that would change how the different planets work). It would be a similar start to Skyrim where you are about to be sentenced to death and just in time something happens and you escape. You can choose your race (Mandalorian, Human, etc.) and start a crew of bounty hunters.
You would have a hub ship like Jedi Fallen Order, which you would be able to choose depending on the era, some ships might be in multiple eras but have advantages/disadvantages if they are older, or maybe a prototype. There would be space battles, not as advanced as Squadrons, but also not as dumbed down as in Battlefront 2 (2017). Maybe the further along in the game you can get a bigger ship that can carry fighters that you or your crew can fly to help fight off the law.
There would be multiple worlds to explore, maybe like a city and a special area outside a city like the sand dunes of Tatooine or the mines of Kessel. I would think the movement should be pretty similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, with maybe a little bit of Fallen Order as well. Now the amount of worlds is a tricky one, too many and it would be overwhelming, but too little and it would be to short. Let's say anywhere from 10-15 planets per era. There can be crossover like Tatooine or Coruscant, but depending on the area the environment could be completely different.
Weapons wise if I were in charge I would use the guns and equipment from Battlefront (2015) but also add newer guns from the sequels or the Disney+ stuff. Have melee weapons, like the beskar staff from Mandalorian or Rey's staff? (There aren't a lot of famous Star Wars melee weapons rather than lightsabers)
Obviously having a force sensitive character would be a bit over powered, same with having a lightsaber. I think it would be cool to lock the ability to have a lightsaber to late game missions or maybe just a really hard compound or boss fight. Maybe in the prequel era you would have to kill a Jedi, the OT era you would break into an imperial compound, and the sequel era you would break into a slightly older imperial compound (I don't know). To have a force sensitive character in the OT or sequel era you would have to do a bunch of missions from an old monk or exiled Jedi maybe, and using a lightsaber would cause more Stormtroopers/New Republic Rangers to attack you compared to a blaster. Maybe in the OT era if you use a lightsaber an inquisitor could track you down.
Now in the prequel era is where I think having a force sensitive would be interesting. You could maybe set it up like you were a Jedi that was kicked out of the order and sent to prison, then learn the dark side of the force (you'd also be able to do that in OT and sequel but maybe it would be easier in the prequel era).
Before I talk about some cool things you could do story wise I want to briefly talk about balancing. Clearly adding in a force sensitive character option would make picking anyone else pointless because you can just use force powers for every problem. But I think that picking a force sensitive character would force (no pun intended) you to play more carefully. Let's say you play a force sensitive in the OT era, like I said earlier you could have inquisitors hunting you down, so security is a lot tighter in major cities since there would be a larger imperial presence. Or in the prequel era you could have full fledged Jedi tracking you down, and if you bring enough attention to you, you could have a Jedi Master like Mace Windu or Obi-Wan track you down, which you obviously wouldn't be able to win.
So if you don't pick force sensitive each race would have advantages. Mandalorians are more skilled combat wise off the bat and can earn beskar armor throughout the game. Trandoshans like Bossk can use infrared vision without special visors and can track bounty's more efficiently. I can keep going but you get the basic idea.
I could keep going on and on but this post is already way to long, so if you want more I will be fully fleshing this out in a full video that I will be linking in the comments within a few days.
I will leave you all with this, in each era you can accept bounties from popular characters and run into familiar faces along the way, which would be fan servicey for sure, but would also help make the worlds feel more lived in.
Anyway thank you for reading I hope you enjoyed.

2021.04.19 07:15 sansaTheGreat Good VRMMO novels?

I just finished Vanguard of the Eternal Night and that one had some great fighting scenes! I never gave VRMMO settings that much of a thought before, but now I'm absolutely hungry for more... however, I have no idea where to start.
I'd like (but can drop one or two)...
+ Good side cast
+ Cool fight scenes! Tournament arcs!!! Ideally about this!!!!!
+ ...female protagonist...????? girl's love?????? i'm not very optimistic given the relative lack of that i've seen but
+ Fine with OPness but there is such a thing as too much

I absolutely nonnegotiably don't want...
- Meandering plot that goes for hundreds of chapters
- Bad translation
- Harem
