From ISLR, it is stated that the square of each t-statistics is the corresponding F-statistic that omits that single variable from the model.
With the table above, and taking newspaper as an example:

I think I went wrong somewhere, as they previously said we reject the null hypothesis if F > 1. Since F = 0.0324 for TV & Radio only, this means I cannot reject the null hypothesis and conclude that effect of TV, and effect of radio are both equal to 0.
This contradicts my understanding of the table above. Where did I go wrong?

I noticed that https://www.reddit.com/wallstreetbets/comments/l8rf4k/times_square_right_now/ is the second most upvoted Reddit post ever with 410k, shortly behind the 438k of the number 1.
Now that billboards are starting to pop up again, why shouldn't the youngsters try to increase its visibility?

2021.05.06 10:39 PR-0927 (2nd Attempt) Networking Noob - Managed Switch VLAN for IP Camera and Shinobi Pro?

Looks like my prior attempt to crosspost my original post from /unraid was deleted by the mods, guessing because either a failure to add flair (sorry!) or because it was a crosspost (I don't see a prohibition for this, but I might have missed it).
Anyway, humbly seeking networking guru help! My original post:

Hey all, I'm a bit of a networking noob here, looking for some guidance if you might be so kind. I bought a Netgear managed switch (GS305EPP) and a POE IP camera (just one for now, with a second one to be bought once I get an understanding of all this). All my research and tutorial-reading/watching has led me to understand that it is very wise to create a separate VLAN for IP cameras on your network, which only interact with the UnRAID server (or NVR) which would straddle both the default network and the camera VLAN.
I have the managed switch connected (of course) to my router to connect to the network, and then have the camera on one port, and my UnRAID server on another port. When I go to create the VLAN, I get confused. Basically, I have four options, two of which fall under the 802.1Q protocol (the last two):

Initially I chose the second-to-last option, and tried setting the UnRAID server to "trunk" mode and the camera to "access" mode, and then stupidly the port that goes to the router to "trunk" mode as well...and then boom I lost all access. Reset the switch and tried again, but without messing with the port leading to the router. However, anything I'd set to either mode, I could no longer access.
So, I tried messing around with the fourth option on that list. Now I see "tagged" and "untagged" and "exclude" options for each VLAN and port. I've set the camera port to the newly-created VLAN, the UnRAID server to both the default VLAN and the camera VLAN, and the incoming router port left on the default VLAN. Under the default VLAN, the camera port is excluded, and the UnRAID server and incoming router port are listed as "untagged." Under the camera VLAN, the camera and unRAID server are both "tagged" and the incoming router port is excluded. To be entirely frank, I don't understand this "tagged" and "untagged" stuff.
With this setup, I can access my UnRAID server from my other computers on the network. However, I cannot access the camera with this setup from either my other computers (expected?) NOR from the UnRAID server itself (this is what I thought was supposed to be working?).
Additionally - I've yet to setup the Shinobi Pro Docker container, but when I do, I saw that in Spaceinvader One's video on Shinobi Pro, he also created the same camera VLAN within UnRAID and allowed Docker access to that (with the same camera VLAN number used for it as what he had setup through his routepfSense). Am I supposed to be doing this too? Where would I even see the assigned IP address for members of the camera VLAN?
One last thing, and I'm not sure if it matters or is relevant at all - my default gateway is (router). My managed switch uses the same gateway address and subnet mask as the router, and weirdly had a different default IP address ( from what it was "supposed" to be (per the label on the bottom of the switch -
Would be immensely grateful to any help I might get on this. Thank you!

2021.05.06 10:39 S_ilia Conflicting feelings about actions from a friend...

So I’m in university finishing up my degree in a specific field. My best friend just finished studying something in a completely different field. So some freelance jobs appeared. Whenever someone tells me they need a job done in her field I refer them to her and she does the job. So now people are asking her to do jobs that are my field and she just makes them even having to knowledge of it. And even asks for my help. On one side I’m happy that she’s getting jobs since she was getting really desperate fearing she wouldn’t have a job after studying. But then again it’s my field, she has no real idea of it and I do give her any jobs that come to me in her field. I’m starting to get angry because I think it’s wrong. So idk what to do or think.... I’m happy she’s feeling better mentally but it’s not her field she doesn’t do it right and is not referring them to me like I do with her. So idk...
Any advice please?

2021.05.06 10:39 Basic_Wizard Why would human logic be correct?

I guess thats my biggest gateway to believing in more than the materialist world. Why would our human minds be capable of understanding / finding truth or comprehending the universe? A cat doesn't get reality tv (i assume).
Arn't we all just living our subjective humancentric lives? Why would we be special about the animals?
Also the fact that there is no proof of consciousness being a property of the brain.

2021.05.06 10:39 SadEmployer5592 Randy Alcorn of The Gospel Coaltion (TCG) tries to refute Bart Ehrman, saying that his statements on "Hell" are wrong, quoting the Old Testament book of Daniel 12:2. But Randy Alcorn doesn't realize he has no foundation to say this, since Daniel has many historical inaccuracies and false prophecies.

Here is the article: Bart Ehrman’s Latest Attack on Christianity (thegospelcoalition.org)
Randy Alcorn uses Daniel 12:2 to say, "Ha, you see, even the OLD TESTAMENT taught eternal damnation! It's not something Christians made up!"
Daniel 12:2 "Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt."
(Side point: the resurrection of the righteous dead is an end times event in first century Jewish beliefs. Matthew set the end of the world 40 years in his own past.)
But one thing I noticed, Randy Alcorn conveniently leaves out what academics in the field of Biblical and Ancient Near East History say about the book of Daniel:
Regarding the failed prophecies and historical inaccuracies in the 'God-inspired' book of Daniel, we read the following:
Chapter 11 is basically a textbook on history of the Ptolemid-Seleucid international relations in the Middle East in the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE, correctly listing a lot of people and events, e.g. political marriages, assassinations, international treaties, wars, rebellions battles etc. in correct chronological order. Here's just a list of individuals it mentions:

The chapter correctly describes major events in Antiochus IV's reign, but then completely flies off the handle and stops being historically accurate - Ptolemy VI never attacts Antiochus IV and Antiochus never conquers Egypt in retaliation [11.40-3]. Antiochus doesn't die in Palestine [11.45], he in fact dies campaigning in the East.
Importantly, the end of the age and the general resurrection of the dead immediately follows Antiochus' death in chapter 12.1-3:
At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
That obviously didn't happen. Christian interpreters tried to fit the entire chapter 11 to a different historical context (there are many such attempts, e.g. claiming that "the king of the north" is the Papacy and "the king of the south" is the Ottoman Empire), but it never works as well as the Ptolemid-Seleucid context. Others have simply moved the entire prophecy to a far future, ignoring the obvious fit with the Middle Eastern international politics of the 3rd and 2nd century. My own study Bible claims that the narration must suddenly "move to a distant future" in verse 11.38 without any indication because "it matches no known historical events" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Many scholars have recognized (and it has been discussed here a lot) that even though chapter 11 is cast as a description of future events, it's actually an account written by an author living in the 2nd century during the reign of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. That's why it suddenly becomes historically inaccurate - the author at some point stops casting past events as a depiction of the future and starts guessing about what will happen next. And because he doesn't actually know the future, he gets it wrong. This irronically allows us to pinpoint when the text was written with a great precision: the author starts to get it wrong around 167-164 BCE.
Btw, this is what we see elsewhere in ancient literature. E.g the Aeneid 6.808-53 contains a long and detailed prophecy about the future glory of Rome, told to Aeneas, the mythical ancestor of the Romans, during his visit to the Underworld. It mentions (by name!) e.g. Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Pompey the Great, Cato, the Gracchi brothers, the Scipii. But then it makes a false prediction - it claims Caesar Augustus will go on to conquer India [6.777-807]! Obviously, this is because it was written by Virgil who lived during the reign of Augustus and overestimated his future military success.
Here's a summary of how Daniel 11 lines up with historical events: https://www.livius.org/articles/misc/daniel-11-in-context/
Yes, there are lots of failures. In fact, Leonard J. Greenspoon argued that books like Judith, Daniel, Tobit, and Esther intentionally did this as an effort to emphasize that their work is historical fiction and should not be taken as fact. He writes:
Another characteristic shared by these novels (and the Book of Daniel as well) relates specifically to their historicity. They contain what appear to be historical notices that contradict the historical record preserved elsewhere. So, for example, we know of no Jewish queen in Persia, the forces said to have massed against Judith's hometown come from different periods, and Daniel is replete both with otherwise unknown--and impossible--personages and with a collapsed or convoluted chronological framework. Although some fundamentalists have sought to expand or correct the generally accepted historical record on the basis of their interpretation of these "historical" details, such efforts must be judged misguided when we realize that their authors were not writing history. They were aware that these things never happened and that these individuals never lived, and their audience had the same knowledge.[5]
As with Esther, Judith, and Tobit, there are [in the Book of Daniel] several deviations from the historical record as known elsewhere. Their utilization in a fully ironic, even mocking, manner makes it unnecessary to charge either ancient author or modern reader with ignorance or carelessness. The author and his initially intended audience fully understood and appreciated Daniel's novelistic context.[6] Quoted here: https://infidels.org/library/modern/chris_sandoval/daniel.html#fiction
For example, CARM.org notes:
Judith 1:5, “Now in the twelfth year of his reign, Nabuchodonosor, king of the Assyrians, who reigned in Ninive the great city, fought against Arphaxad and overcame him.”
Baruch 6:2, “And when you are come into Babylon, you shall be there many years, and for a long time, even to seven generations: and after that I will bring you away from thence with peace.”
This is just wrong. Nebuchadnezzar was King of Babylon, not Assyria. This is like calling Elizabeth II the Queen of France. Moreover, the prophecy was for 70 years, not 7 generations.
Important point: The Hebrew Scriptures, T'nach, is ordered into three sections: The Torah (first 5 books), the Prophets, and the Writings. In Christian Bibles, Daniel is placed among the prophets, but in the Hebrew order, Daniel is placed in the writings. Daniel's book was never meant to be prophetic.
So don't be too full of contempt for those who are ignorant, rather pity them, pity those who have not yet learned to critically think. Although many of us, as with any other savage belief system, have been hurt by those institutions, no, no, not just by physical or sexual abuse, but by the adherents simply reading the religious texts, in this case, the Bible, and the adherent, having no understanding or background of history, gets mentally abused by savage and childish concepts such as hell fire, and a God who gave laws for rape slaves, etc, this sort of 'knowledge' is a mental abuse which casts a dark shadow over the heart of humanity. I am glad that all of this is just trash, are you, Randy Alcorn? Or are you too ignorant to see the truth past the dog shit that has been spoon fed to you?
Are you too interested in the money they give you, so much so that you cannot show both sides of the coin here? Christians are liars, and the shepherds are the most vile. "Money is the root of all evil", this describes Christians the best. Reminds me of my pastor when he used to preach the Exodus, he used to sweat and scream at the audience that this was all true, yet academics have known for a long, long time now that the Exodus as described in the Bible never took place. These people are just desirous of your money.

I personally think fallout 5 should have playable races and they should go back to not having voice actors for the player character (like in 3, Nv and 76) The races would be: Human: Normal stats Ghoul: Gain 1 hp per 3 radiation damage the character would take and has 5% chance to recover injuries if sleeps near radiation. Max charisma reduced to 8 Super mutant: Starting and max strength increased by two (starts with 6 max is 12) but max charisma and intelligence is lowered to 6. Can't have more than 4 ranks in any skill. Immune to poison and radiation
